I got invited to try out one of the best nail spas I have ever seen in Quezon City — Nail Axis.
Nail Axis is “Manila’s First-Class Luxury Hand and Foot Spa” that offers top notch services at reasonable prices. Although, I have to admit, you need to save up a bit to experience their services, but it’s definitely worth it. (thus I call “reasonable” over “affordable”) This can be a reward to yourself–a treat for working those extra hours at the office. Nail Axis is located at the 2nd floor of South Insula Building along Timog Avenue, South Triangle (between Music Bank & Tramway Garden Buffet). Finding it was a piece of cake. What I loved about the location is that it’s not a common place for establishments, thus resulting to a spacious area and quiet ambience. I came in and was greeted by Owner/Manager, John Cava. I got to know him better a bit after the session and I found out that he’s an Enderun College graduate and has some serious background on hotels and management in general. When the Nail Axis business was turned over under his management, he rebranded everything right from the interiors up to the services. The interiors are unlike your typical girly nail spas–all-white with splashes of green and black. The spa chairs are made of leather each paired with a striped pillow. The art pieces are painted with shades of green, black, and white. The decorations were a few bamboo poles at the back and a fancy chandelier at the ceiling. Nothing gimmicky but very classy fit for both men and women. However, those are just secondary because the main attraction goes to the jet spa chairs. It’s actually my first time seeing one. So I dived straight to it and asked for a Jet Spa chair treatment plus a mani pedi sesh and an exfoliating scrub and massage.
Before the treatment took place I signed an info sheet for them to have a record of my preference, allergies, and such. I told them that I had blisters so soaking my feet in water might be an issue–but not really because they’re almost healing anyway. Also, I didn’t have to tell them because I was wearing sandals, I had two ugly bruises on my big toe nails due to standing up all day at events I go to. (Warning, you’ll see a view of this later on. haha!) After that, I took a glorious sip of my hot Malaysian milk tea (and ordered a marshmallow fondue because why not) prepared by John himself. Exclusive delights are free, btw, but you can order a few more from their mini bar menu (mostly desserts) for an extra fee so you can enjoy a complete pamper sesh like no other.
Then came the “serious” part–pamper time! The jet spa chair makes the whole experience different from your usual nail spas. Aside from the fact that it has its own tub and water coming out from it, the chair itself has a built-in massage machine! You’re basically getting pampered twice or thrice as much compared to your usual hand and foot massage. I also found the cushion on top of the chair convenient for the scrub, massage, and pedicure time. After my feet and legs got pampered it was time for them to work on my hands. While my hands were being soaked, scrubbed, and massaged, they started cleaning and shaping my toe nails in preparation for the pedicure. So yes, it was all simultaneously happening and I felt like a #TitaofManila on a luxurious trip to pamper land. Since I’m looking forward to Philippine Fashion Week on June 12 (who’s going? let me know!) , and the possibility of my feet getting exposed, I decided to give gel nails a go. I am quite new to this gel nails hype but now I understand why everybody’s so into it: it lasts for 2-4 weeks! That’s the main highlight for me. Nail Axis also chose a good brand for their gel nail polishes–Cuccio, a brand that promises (according to nailsmag.com) to “protect the nails, allowing them to grow longer and stronger.” And that’s exactly what my toenails need right now.
(this is my ugly toenail saying hi to you all. It will say goodbye in a bit)
A week after this nail treatment , I swear to you, my gel nails are still going strong. No scratches, no signs of flaking, and they’re still shiny! Now I no longer need to reapply the colour because I’m confident that they won’t flake out on me (especially on phfw). I’ve also been wearing more open-toe shoes because my ugly bruises have been stylishly hidden beneath this lovely hue of pink gel nail color.
After drying my nails under a LED lamp they got started shaping and painting my fingernails. I like to keep my nails short but I also want them to look elegant so I had a french tip done. It’s the safest nail design for my style. Although they aren’t gel nails, they have managed to stay put until now. There are a few signs of flaking but I can manage. After drying my nails I got up from my jet spa chair and had few chit chat moments with John about the business. He asked me about my experience as well and I confidently said that it’s something I’ll definitely come back for. Maybe after month–to have my gel nail polish removed (for free, because that’s also part of the package) and for a pamper time date with my boyfriend or girlfriends (they host spa events too!). He also gave me coupons for 20% off on my next visit that I can share with you all! Just mention my name (Tin Advincula) on the day of your visit and you’ll automatically get a discounted treatment! Lastly, I just have to mention that if you’re planning to get your luxurious treatments done, it’s better to call them up first and schedule your visit. Great things take time, and that includes your pamper session with Nail Axis. Schedule your session so you can be sure that they can accommodate you and not rush the treatment because of walk-in customers. My session lasted for 2 hours, so you’ll definitely get your money’s worth because of the time and services that they have invested in you.<3
