Let me start by saying that this is my first ever beauty-related review on this blog. I have a few quick reviews but nothing as detailed as this will be. So please cut me some slack ’cause I’m a newbie. Hahaha! So, enough disclaimers.
Let’s start off with how this product arrived on my “dresser”. I actually saw the brand loitering about in my IG feed because some of the beauty bloggers I follow are using Nekkid Beauty Products. I visited their website and it was love at first sight!
Nekkid Beauty is easy to love. First of, it’s a Pinoy brand, all products are handmade, and most of all, products are made from all-natural ingredients–vegan and paraben-free. It’s founded by Sabs Dy-Liacco, a skin care obsessed woman who believes in the power of the oil cleansing method. Now before you get skeptical, let me explain. I have oily skin, and this method, demonstrated through using this balm for almost a month, has proven that it is effective.
The basic idea of oil cleansing is to use natural oils in specific combination to cleanse the skin and naturally balance the skin’s natural oils. This produces much more nourished and moisturized skin that traditional soap and detergent based facial cleaners.
This principle applies to this makeup remover balm as well. I used to use Pond’s cold cream to remove my makeup but it’s not as effective as this one. Let’s start with the overall look and formula of the product.
To be honest, the packaging does not secure the product well. When the package arrived, it was not sealed with airtight plastic . Thankfully the product did not spill completely but traces of oil can be seen at the topmost “edge” of the tin can. I opened the product and found it sort of disintegrated, but maybe that’s just the ingredients separating, nothing a few mixes can’t fix. I mixed the product and voila! It remains in that form until now.
(please excuse my face LOL) Trying out the product felt unusual because 1st, I’m using something oil-based on my oily face to remove my makeup and 2nd,it gives a warm sensation when I apply it. When you experience this, don’t worry, that’s the product working. Leave it on for a minute or two then remove it with a damp towel.
I find that removing it with a damp towel can be a bit wasteful so I used tissue instead and it works fine. I later found out that wetting the tissue a bit is as effective, so that’s good to know. After wiping my skin felt smooth and moisturized. I washed my face with a gentle cleanser, applied toner, Nekkid Beauty’s Thirty Face serum, and moisturizer to seal it all in.
Overall, this product is worth it. It’s only 350 Php, btw. A little goes a long way so it will last a long time. It moisturizes my skin and did not give me pimples despite it being oil-based! I would definitely repurchase this when I run out!
