One thing I don’t write about as much as I want here on my blog is anything beauty-related. However, I’d like to shake things up today. I’ll let my current obsession with beauty take its course as I share with you my affordable Holy Grail finds from Sample Room PH.
But before I begin I’d like for you to know my view on beauty, and “looks” in general, ’cause I think it needs to be said from the point-of-view of a person who’s very career-oriented. One, it’s not about vanity. To care about how your body, in general, is a form of self-care. You exercise, eat the right food, take a bath, and put on makeup because it makes you look and feel good. Two, looking and feeling good adds so much value to your work. Just like how an athlete needs all the shoes, clothes, and mindset makes her perform better. Three, it’s way beyond being “kikay”. Adding a little hairspray, spritzing perfume, and putting on foundation helps make you look presentable. Sometimes, it’s just part of the job.
With that said, here are 8 items that help me look and feel my best!
Celeteque CC Micro-Hydrating Powder
I’m a fan of brands that infuse skincare into their makeup because my skin’s prone to breakouts. Celeteque’s one of the few local brands (the others are VMV & Happy Skin) that actually delivers pretty well given their reasonable price point. It reminds me a lot of the Smashbox Halo Hydrating Powder but in a more nourishing formula. Since it’s hydrating, I use it to set my undereye concealer and the perimeters of my face. I’ve been using it for touch-ups too and it helps mattify my oily T-zone.
Vitress Hair Freshener
Hair products are so underrated. Hair needs the same love care as the rest of our body. Especially for me since I have super thick hair. Sadly, it gets stinky easily, especially on a busy day. Thankfully this hairspray makes it look shinier, smell fresher, and feel cleaner after a few spritzes on the roots. Kind of like a hair “touch-up” when you’re out and about.
Himalaya Herbals Almond & Cucumber Peel-Off Mask
I’ve been looking for a peel-off mask since…forever. So you can just imagine how I ecstatic I was when I got this in the email. I’m personally a fan of this brand since I discovered them through Sample Room PH. They can do no wrong. This one impressed me most because I apply this one week and my skin gets thoroughly cleansed every single use. It stings a bit at first but when it dries to a clear film, you can easily pull it off without removing your facial hair. (so your eyebrows are safe!)
Pond’s White Beauty Day Cream
Pond’s formula fits Filipina skin perfectly and through Sample Room PH I discovered this day cream my oily skin loves! The texture is like a mousse and it has a super lovely scent. It moisturizes my skin and can even funcation as a faux primer for makeup!
Himalaya Herbals Sensitive Toothpaste
I have sensitive gums and this toothpaste helped me lessen the pain in a month. I guess this matched me pretty well, and that’s really surprising to me ’cause I never knew toothpaste could do that! Definitely a mainsaty in my bathroom kit.
Happy Skin Lip & Cheek Mousse
I never would have known about Happy Skin if it weren’t for Sample Room PH. They sent me the perfect “starter” product that lead me to love the rest of their items. This lip and cheek mouse is a handbag staple for me ’cause I’m always on a rush. If I’m not able to put makeup before leaving I just whip this out of my bag and dab it on my lips, cheeks, and eyelids. It gives me the perfect flush every single time!Himalaya Herbals
Soffia Opulence Perfect Skin Angled Foundation Brush
A good-looking base is key to making my blemished (and scarred :|) skin look presentable. I got this brush from their media launch event and I haven’t bought a new foundation brush ever since! This one, in particular, is densely-packed (so dense that it’s actually a challenge to clean it), has never shed, and spreads foundation seamlessly on my face. It has a handle that’s a bit shorter than usual but that’s what I love most about it ’cause I have more control over it.
Try Before You Buy
I discovered these products because of Sample Room PH’s “try before you buy” platform. It’s useful for Filipinas who want to find the best products for them without shelling out money from the get-go. I mean, what if that product doesn’t suit your skin and you already paid a thousand bucks for it? Return policies in the Philippines suck so you just wasted money on a product that doesn’t work. However, if you get to try it out and you know it works wonder on your skin, you get value for money!
